Half Pint is the sweetest little preemie sculpted by Marita Winters. He has the face that looks incredibly like a real live NICU baby, These babies are not only small but slightly underdeveloped to appear somewhat frail and fragile. This baby begs for gentle holding.
Cuddling him is a most realistic experience due to the fact that his body has been filled with plastisol...an ingredient which makes him squishy like a silicone doll. However, there are benefits to having a vinyl doll over one of silicone. Half Pint is 15 inches long and weighs a little over three pounds. He is the size of a 7 month premature infant. Allowing for the curve in his legs, he would be about 17 inches in real life.
Half Pint is a drink and wet doll. He comes home with a special bottle made with a nipple that fits inside the tubing in his mouth. He can use fake formula made with sunscreen lotion and water. This formula has been tested and does not clog up the internal tubing mechanism. You may also feed him colored water made with food coloring, however this will cause his “urine” to be colored also. Note: the head does not turn on this baby due to the placement of the internal drink and wet system on such a small body. Arms and legs turn with gentle movement without pulling. Never pull the legs or arms of any reborn doll. Also be careful with the head when pulling clothes off his head.
Also included with Half Pint is a huge amount of accessories and hospital equipment:
2 preemie size onesies going home outfit NICU shirt special magnetic pacifier and clip hospital blanket hospital cap hospital ID bracelet magnetic fetal heart monitor breathing cannula and oxygen tank removable umbilical cord with clamp 4 disposable preemie diapers COA hospital stethoscope fake hypodermic needle for “shots” feeding tube
Bassinet shown in the photos is not included. However it is easy to make one like this from a large clear plastic bin. NOTE: All hospital equipment is meant for role play and simulation. It does not actually work and should not be used with a real infant.
Advantages of plastisol over silicone:
1) Silicone requires constant dusting with a powdery substance to prevent a stickiness which forms on silicone. This baby is easy to care for with no special treatment required other than the gentle handling for all reborn dolls.
2) The rooted hair on this baby is sealed from the inside to prevent hair loss. With a silicone doll, the hair often falls out because it has nothing to cling to. Silicone only adheres to silicone.
3) Silicone destroys any vinyl to which it comes in consistent contact, therefore the vinyl tubing used to make a drink and wet doll would eventually decay. Plastisol does not react in any way with the vinyl tubing or any other internal components such as magnets.
4) Silicone, in my opinion, is too squishy. Real babies do not bend their limbs or flop around as I have seen with silicone dolls. The plastisol keeps the shape of the vinyl doll yet feels soft to the touch...much more like a real baby feels.
