Max is a reborn replica of a prematurely born baby of about 30 weeks gestation. He weighs 2 pounds 13 ounces and 14 inches long slightly curled. He is a little baldy and has all his preemie wrinkles and creases as well as veins and mottling. He is full body vinyl and is anatomically correct.
He is a drink and wet reborn who comes home with lots of hospital equipment for you to create your own NICU section of the nursery just for him. He can drink distilled water or faux formula made with sunscreen. This will not clog up his “plumbing.” You can also add food coloring to distilled water to create “juices” etc. although babies this age typically do not drink these yet. An occasional bottle of vinegar water (every few weeks or so) will keep his system cleaned out.
• A feeding tube, as babies this young may not be able to use a bottle well • A small pacifier to encourage development of the sucking reflex • A preemie sized bottle to teach him to feed properly • A removable umbilical cord • An oxygen tank and mask to help with breathing • An IV drip bag, “needle” with ankle band, etc. which is fillable to deliver “medications” • A NICU style outfit with openings on shoulders to access equipment easily • A urine bag to collect specimens for the lab • Several preemie diapers for when he doesn’t need to use the bag • An authentic hospital receiving blanket
Drink and wet reborns are made functional through a system of internal tubing. He can only use the bottle, pacifier, etc. that was made especially for him. You must be careful to insert the items to line up exactly with the end of the tubing in his mouth. He has weighting material for realism, and for this reason he cannot be submersed in water. He can be cleaned using a damp cloth with mild soap and water. Due to the internal workings of this baby, he cannot turn his head.
The oxygen tank and IV bag may be hung from a hook or tied to the side of a crib. To make it look like he has a real hospital style bassinet, a clear plastic bin works really well. Liquids have been added to the equipment pieces for the sake of taking pictures, but they will arrive empty. Although most of the time he will be literally covered with devices of all sorts, it is good to unhook him for brief periods and hold him close to your heart. He feels very real and is so sweet to hold.
As with all reborn dolls, Max is not a toy and is not made for children. He is a collectable art doll for adults to display or to use for therapeutic reasons.
